PostGIS 1.5.3 Released

The PostGIS team is proud to announce the release of version 1.5.3. This is a minor release addressing a few issues that have been filed since the 1.5.2 release in addition to fixes that allow it to compile against PostgreSQL 9.1beta.

UDIG 1.2.0 Release

The uDig 1.2 release process is complete and we are pleased to offer uDig 1.2.0 for download. This release is made in conjunction with GeoTools 2.6.5. The uDig 1.2.0 release is available from the main download page.

PostGIS 1.5.0 Release

The 1.5.0 release of PostGIS is now available. This is a major release adding a significant number of new features including:

New "geography" type for managing geodetic (lat/lon) data
Performance-enhanced distance calculations
GML and KML format readers
Improved shape loading GUI

Refractions' 10 Year Anniversary

Refractions Research is celebrating an important milestone this year, as we have now been in business for 10 years.

Refractions Receives GSA Schedule

The US General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded Refractions Research a Schedule 70 contract [#GS-35F-0176U] to provide general purpose commercial IT services.

Refractions looks forward to working with US clients under this contract instrument and other GSA-based standing orders.

GEOS 3.0.0 Released

Refractions Research is pleased to announce the release of the 3.0.0 version of the Geometry Engine, Open Source (GEOS). The GEOS library is used in numerous software packages, including AutoDesk's MapGuide Enterprise, Safe Software's FME, and the PostGIS spatial database.

With the 3.0.0 release, GEOS is moving into incubation with the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, to become an official project of the foundation. Refractions will continue to take a lead role in the development and maintenance of GEOS, but will work as part of a formal “Project Steering Committee” that sets the direction and priorities of the project.

Refractions @ FOSS4G 2007

Refractions is a Gold Sponsor of the Free & Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) conference being held in Victoria, September 24-27.

Refractions staff are serving as conference volunteers, teaching a workshop, giving seven presentations [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7], and teaching two labs [1, 2]. Come visit the Refractions booth in the exhibition hall.

FOSS4G 2007 Coming to Victoria

The annual Free & Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) will be hosted in Victoria this year, September 24-27. Refractions Research will be a Gold Sponsor of the event, which brings together developers and users from around the world to share experiences and development plans for open source geospatial software.

Refractions joins Google's Summer of Code

Refractions Research has joined the Google “Summer of Code” initiative as a mentoring organization. The “Summer of Code” is a program that offers student developers stipends to create new open source programs or to help currently established projects.

Refractions leads PostgreSQL GiST Improvement Project

Refractions Research has announced the completion of a colaborative project to improve index concurrency and recovery for the PostgreSQL GiST indexing system used by PostGIS and other PostgreSQL extensions.

The project brought together funding from multiple companies around the world to support the GiST development team in adding row level locking and recovery to the PostgreSQL GiST subsytem. Refractions assembled the various funding companies, provided quality assurance of the final product and centralized invoicing for the project.
